JOSEPH B. MOORE III  is the managing partner of Gunty, McCarthy & Moore.  Joe works primarily from the firm's Chicago office and also manages the firm's growing Indiana litigation practice. He has extensive experience in construction defect, catastrophic personal injury, business interruption, product liability, transportation, trucking, professional negligence, biometric privacy, intellectual property disputes and complex commercial litigation matters across the Midwest. Joe creates strong and strategic defense options for his clients at trial by carefully investigating the underlying facts, science, and economics for each claim. Joe has developed an excellent national network of subject matter experts across medicine, economics, human factors, safety and engineering to thoroughly defend the variety of complex matters and pre-litigation inquiries on liability and damages needed by our clients. Joe has also managed extensive E-Discovery matters involving millions of pages of documents. Joe has authored the IICLE Handbook E-Discovery Chapters for Commercial Litigation in 2021 and 2026.

Prior to joining the firm, Joe was an equity partner at a large national insurance defense firm where he managed high exposure matters for surplus and excess carriers. Joe attended law school and received his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law with a certificate in intellectual property. He also received the Kent Bar & Gavel award from his graduating class and served as the law school's social chair. Prior to law school, he attended Northwestern University in Evanston, IL and earned a double major with a B.S. in industrial engineering and economics.

Away from work, Joe enjoys tennis, golf, pickleball, Chicago sports.  He also loves his Northwestern University Wildcat Athletics and traveling the world with his wife Sandra, who works as a stage manager at some of the world's finest opera houses, including the Chicago Lyric Opera. Joe also regularly performs in the Chicago Bar Association’s annual holiday review show, which celebrated its 100th year in 2023. Joe is deeply engaged in multiple communities including his hometown in Northwest Indiana, his years managing an Indianapolis office, and his decades of work Chicago.  His work across both Indiana and Illinois reflects a lifetime of engagement in both states personally and professional.  Joe proactively works to promote civility in the practice of law by building relationships in all directions in an adversarial profession.  He looks forward to engaging with his corporate clients, adjusters, and opposing counsels to seek resolutions to claims and conflicts.
